Narnia Class update

We have had a fantastic week in Narnia class, learning all about Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to fly around the world! We have made fact files all about her extraordinary life, and have been learning how she navigated using the four compass points: North, East, South and West. We have even had a go at pretending to be pilots in the playground, using our understanding of the compass points to recreate Amelia’s flight path! In English, we have continued our stories inspired by Oliver Jeffers’s book ‘Lost and Found’, and have been writing about the penguin’s journey back home to Antarctica, the most southern continent. In Maths, we have been discovering that when we add three digits, it doesn’t matter what order we add them – the answer will always be the same! Work on the Nativity continues. We have now learnt all the songs (which already sound amazing!) and we are all very excited with our roles and to finally begin learning our parts.

Neverland Class update

This week we have finished our story in English (Lost and Found) and finished our exploration of 10 in Maths. We are looking forward to starting new learning in both subjects next week. Our afternoons have been filled with Geography learning, starting with the four countries that make the United Kingdom, the 7 continents and the 5 oceans of the world. We have enjoyed learning songs to recall all this brilliant and new learning – have a go at listening to them at home!

Farthing Wood Class update

Our week has centred around oats and porridge! I am sure you can guess the Traditional tale we have been reading this week.

In English the children have read Goldilocks and the Three Bears and have loved tasting porridge but they couldn’t decide if their porridge was too lumpy, too sweet or just right. It was lovely to hear them chatting to their peers using the language learnt from the story.

In Phonics we have been learning the digraphs (two letters, one sound) ch, sh, th(v), th and ng. It can be really tricky to remember these and spot them in words but the children have fantastic looking eyes and spotted them straight away! We’ve been practising our letters in handwriting too and been trying really hard with our letter formation.
In Maths we have been looking at how the number 4 and 5 are made (composition). The children have been making and subitising 4 and 5 (knowing a group of objects makes a particular number) and recognising two numbers together makes another number!

It was lovely to see so many of you at parents’ evening and a pleasure to tell you and share all the amazing things we get up to together in Farthing Wood class.
In Topic we have been looking at maps and we went on a virtual walk around Mundesley using Google Maps – it was great to see the children recognising so many of the buildings in and around the village! We even created our own version of the map in school. We are looking at different types of buildings and houses. If you would like to send in a photo of your house we can use it in our small world – the children love to play and make up stories with familiar buildings.

Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school.

Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.

We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.

Narnia Class update

This week in English, we have started learning about a new story called ‘Lost and Found’ all about a little boy who opens his front door one day to find a penguin on his doorstep! We have been learning all about penguins and have even written our own fact-file about penguins, describing what they look like, where they live, what they eat and how they huddle together to keep warm! In Maths, we continued explored counting in tens, and have even been learning how to add two 2-digit numbers. In Topic, we have been learning about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom; the names of the seven continents; and the five oceans. Feel free to quiz us at home so we can practise our learning! Meanwhile, work on the Nativity continues… watch this space!

Neverland Class update

Hard work never stops in Neverland class. We have started our new story in English, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers – this could be Neverlands favourite story so far. In Maths we have continued counting in 2’s as were determined to get this right and say them confidently! We have finished our Music topic this week, so we have spent some time learning some songs, ready for Christmas.

Farthing Wood update

In Farthing Wood Class this week the children have been super collaborative, working in pairs and teams to complete challenges both inside and out. It has been wonderful to watch the children use their voice and interact with their peers.
In Phonics we have completed the alphabet and learnt an amazing alphabet song! Our sounds this week have been ‘y’, ‘z,’ ‘zz’ and ‘qu’ – y =yum, z = zip, zz = buzz and qu = quack. We’ve been practising these letters in handwriting too and the children have been independently writing them in JONK time!
This week we have continued to read the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children have thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the repeated refrains in the story and deciding which choices mattered to the Pigs and the Wolf. Last week the children created their own version of the story and together they acted out everybody’s story – it was wonderful to watch!
In Maths we have been looking at the composition of 3 along with circles and triangles. The children loved going on a shape hunt for them and are super confident at finding circles. We have also been learning positional language such as under, over, in, out, in front, behind and between. The children worked in pairs hiding a teddy and using their new knowledge describing where it was hidden for their partner top find. ‘The Bear is under the table’ – I wonder if you could practice this at home?
In Topic we have been looking at religious buildings and different religious beliefs. First we looked at Christianity and their special festivals – Easter and Christmas and then we looked at Hinduism and the special festivals they celebrate – the Festival of Light (Diwali) and the Festival of Colour (Holi). The children have made Rangoli patterns both inside and outside (you may have seen them!) We watched the story of Ramam and Sita and learnt about good triumphing over evil. Finally the children made their own Diva Lamp out of clay and decorated it. We then made a big Rangoli pattern in the hall and lit them – it looked beautiful and a wonderful way to end our week.

Wow! What a busy week we have had in Narnia Class! We began to learn our first song for our Christmas Nativity Show ……. We are so excited to start rehearsing our parts very soon! We have continued to look at the interesting life of `Amelia Earhart` within English this week – We discovered some amazing facts about her life and explored all the places she may have visited. In Topic, we have been designing our very own aeroplanes, exploring the best materials to use and investigating which designs would make our aeroplanes travel the furthest. We carefully constructed our first prototypes and took them for a test flight. We were amazed with the distance some of them travelled. We then evaluated which designs worked best and then modified our original planes. In Maths, we have been counting up to 100! Using a variety of methods :tens and ones, part-part whole models and 100 squares. We looked at patterns when counting in 10’s. In Phonics, we have focused on the ‘al’ sound and enjoyed a treasure hunt around the classroom to find hidden words.
