Head of School update

This week at school….

The children have all been working super hard this week!  We have been learning how footballers dance, exploring the autumn colours and understanding our Monsters in phonics to name a few.  Check out the class updates for more information.

On Monday afternoon we had our first Celebration Assembly of the year and for the first time since before the pandemic, we had both the Infant and Junior School together. It was fantastic to see the children altogether as they celebrated the achievements of children across both schools. We have two new awards this year, alongside our JONK certificates. These are our citizen of the week and reader of the week awards. For those children who receive the reader of the week for their class, they are then invited to spend a Tuesday breaktime with me in the new MJS library to share a story, have a cookie and hot chocolate!

This week we invited parents in to sample some of the food that will be on the new menu after October half term.  Thank you to everyone who came.  We were able to taste lasagne, Teriyaki chicken and a range of tasty cakes!  We will be holding a similar event for the children so they get a chance to try out the new dishes.  In addition our School Council attended their first meeting, this was with the Manager of our Norse catering team and talked about the things they liked on the menu, items they wanted to change and wanted more or less of.  They really did well and came up with lots of feedback.  We will be using this to influence the menu going forward.

Next week there will be a special street food menu on Thursday 6 October. This is census day and the amount of children having a school lunch really makes a difference to the funding we get for the next academic year.  PLease support us by booking a lunch for your child.  Remember there are main menus, snack packs, and jacket potato options every day.  If you have any questions please contact the school office.

Macmillan Coffee Morning and Reading Cafe Friday 7 October.  We will be hosting this parent event again this year and would welcome any donations that you are able to provide.  Please remember we are a nut free school.  Donations can be left with the school office.  Please see the letter that is being resent out as a reminder for more information.

Uniform reminder:  Please ensure children are wearing the correct uniform and PE kit.  From Monday we will be contacting you if children are not in uniform.  Remember logo’d items can be older versions, or the newer version.  You do not need to replace these unless they are worn out!

School Money:  We will be chasing any outstanding accounts over the next week. Please ensure that any payments overdue are paid promptly.  Thank you.
