All the children are astounding us with their knowledge of Samuel Pepys and the Great Fire of London!
This week we looked in more detailed at what Samuel wrote in his diary about the Fire and also the Great Plague of 1665. We thought it was pretty gruesome! We have enjoyed discovering the meanings of the words he used in his diary – Did you know a lighter was a barge? In our Topic we have been creating a skyline of London in 1666 as the fire was raging. The are looking spectacular if we say so ourselves!
In Maths Year 2 have been looking at solving multiplication problems using the 2, 5 and 10 x tables. We have focussed on the method of grouping to solve them. We are getting super confident in skip counting in 2, 5 and 10’s now. Year 1 have been learning to recognise, find and make a quarter of shapes and quantities.
In phonics Year 2 have been recapping the ‘o’ grapheme which makes the ‘u’ sound as in ‘other’. Year 1 have been recapping Yellow Eye ‘ie’ and ‘igh’, UHoo ‘ew’ and Green Froggy ‘ie’
