Jesse Owens Class weekly update 16 Oct 2020

We have had another busy week in Jesse Owens class!

In English, we applied everything we have learnt about writing Superb Sentences to write a sequel for ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. The sequel follows the brazen, scavenging seagulls as they try to steal ‘The Fisherman’s Lunch’, and the children have come up with some brilliant ideas about how the fisherman could stop them!

In maths, we have been learning how to find all the addition and subtraction fact families for numbers up to 10 and 20 by using tens frames, double-sided counters and part-part whole models. It would be great if you could ask your children to teach you what they have learnt about their number bonds to 10 and 20, and how they can write different + and – number sentences for each number fact.

In science, we have continued our investigations into everyday materials. We have learnt how to test for properties of materials, and have worked out which material would be best for Mr Grinling’s new mackintosh (it was oilcloth – as it is waterproof and light)!

Children need to come to school in their PE kit on Thursdays. This includes tracksuit bottoms, a jumper, socks and trainers (we will be doing PE outside- and it’s getting rather chilly now!)
