Farthing Wood Class update

SNOW!!! – This has been so exciting, the children have loved exploring the snow outside. They have experimented with different ways to move and transport it, made snow soup in the mud kitchen and been fascinated at watching it melt – so many different learning opportunities!

In Phonics we have learnt the new Green Froggy sound ‘ee’. The children have been busy creating different ‘ee’ words such as weep, jeep, see and feet. The children have used lots of different media to create their own flashcards such as paint, pens, chalk and crayons. We have also been reading the story of Sleeping Beauty and the children have been super detectives spotting all the ‘ee’ words in the story!
Iin English we have continued to read The Gingerbread Man, and the children created their own story maps. We have been looking at characters, the setting and the beginning, middle and end of the story. The children were challenged to come up with a different ending and draw a picture and then describe it – we have some amazing imaginations in Farthing Wood Class!
In maths we have continued to investigate how numbers to 5 are made – this week we learnt that if we know how many objects there are we can work out how many we can see and how many are hidden – if we have 5 cubes altogether and I have three in my hand how many are hiding in the bucket? This is a really fun game to play at home together!
We have begun our new Topic – People. Over this term we will be trying to answer our key enquiry question ‘What can I be?’ using the key concepts belonging – feeling like you fit in, and identity – who you are. This week we have been looking at who we are and who is in our family. The children had great fun drawing their families and their houses they live in.
In our PE lesson we continued to practise moving in different ways and listening to instructions and playing different games with our ‘sticky spot’. We had to drive around the hall using different movements, using our spot as a steering wheel. We then had to go shopping and place a beanbag on our heads and continue to walk around the hall – it was very tricky trying to balance and drive!!
We had a wonderful visit to the library this week. It was lovely to see all the different books available and have a story read to us. Some children even got to take out some library books to read at home.
Please remember that PE is on a Monday and we expect children to come into School wearing their PE kit – a letter reminding you of the correct PE kit has been sent home.
Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school.
Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
