Farthing Wood Class

This week in Farthing Wood class the children have been very creative this week. They measured out all the ingredients needed to make pancakes, mixed it together and then enjoyed them with some very delicious toppings!
In Phonics we have been learning Miss Oh No! ‘oa’ as in boat, foal, coach, along with Tricky Witch and Ghost letter high frequency words some, come and one. The children have blown me away with their phonics knowledge and ability to blend! They have also found different sentences around the classrooms, read them independently and then drawn a picture to match what it says – this is phenomenal!
In English we have continued with ‘Drawing Club’ this week and have been reading the story Peace at Last. We went on an adventure this week and the children had to use their imaginations to think of another place Mr Bear could go to try and get to sleep. The children then used their Monster Phonics knowledge and wrote the most amazing descriptive sentence explaining where Mr Bear had gone to get some much needed sleep!
In Maths we have been comparing and measuring height and length using non-standard units of measure such as paperclips or cubes. We have read Jasper’s Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth and will plant our own sunflower seeds after half term with Mrs Farrow – which we are looking forward to seeing grow! We have also found out what we can do in a minute – maybe you could have a go over half term – you might be very surprised!
In Topic we have been looking at ‘People Who Help Us’. We have talked about and explored different types of jobs such as police officers, postal workers, fire people, doctors, nurses and vets. We talked about how they help us, when we would need their help and what vehicles they drive. We talked about what job we might like to do when we get older.
Finally we answered this term’s key enquiry question – ‘What Can I Be?’. The children decided they could be anything they wanted to be. They are unique and different and that is okay – we do not all have to be the same.

We hope you all have a wonderful half term and a well deserved rest ready for the new term. We look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you come back.

Please remember that PE is on a Monday and we expect children to come into School wearing their PE kit – a letter reminding you of the correct PE kit has been sent home.
Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school.
Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
