It has been wonderful this week to see the children settled in their school routine and coming into class with a big smile on their face.
In Phonics this week we have looked at the letters d, m and g and the children have been very excited to share their first Monster Phonics reading books with you at home. They are becoming super confident in segmenting and blending. I hope you found the video I shared last week useful for practising their sounds and actions.
This week we have begun our Maths journey and we have been exploring buttons and socks using the vocabulary, sort, match, odd one out, pair, same and different.
The children have been amazing at spotting the odd ones out and matching pairs. They have also been able to tell me what the buttons have that are the same and what is different using shape, colour and size to describe them. They have been able to put socks in pairs and tell me why they don’t match or why they do match. – I must say they have been extremely helpful in matching the socks in my laundry basket!
In Topic we are continuing the story of ‘The Everywhere Bear’. We created lost posters and thought about who we would want to help us if we lost something. We decided our friends would be perfect for this and looked at ‘how we could be a good friend to others’. We talked about how it felt to be a good friend and how we feel when our friends help us. WE have also read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and have been exploring different feelings that we might have and how we can recognise these. We talked about what each feeling felt like and what we could do if we had these feelings while at school.
Your child’s reading book will be changed next week. Please record when you have read their Monster Phonics book with them in their Reading Record – Thank you.
Can you please remember to send the children in with wellies and waterproofs . We will go outside regardless of the weather and we are hoping to start ‘Welly Walks’ around the school grounds. Can you also remember to send your child in with a full water bottle everyday.
Hopefully you have all activated your Tapestry accounts but if you need any assistance please ask me or at the school office. We will use Tapestry to show you all the amazing learning your child is doing at school but please do use it as an opportunity to show us what you do together at home – bake a cake, read a story, make a den, go on a walk, a special occasion. We love to see what you as a family do together at home.
Thank you to those of you that have sent in photos of your families, it’s been lovely to see them and have them up in class. The children have really enjoyed talking about their families with their peers and adults. Don’t worry if you haven’t you are still able to send them to myself (k.betts@coastaltogether.co.uk) or the school office.
