Farthing Wood Class update

We’ve had another wonderful week in Farthing Wood Class. This week I have had the pleasure of hearing all the children read and I am blown away by how amazing they all are. Thank you for reading with your child at home. It makes such a difference to your child’s progress.
In Phonics we have introduced the Tricky Witch digraph ‘oi’ as in oil, foil, coin, tinfoil, poison and toilet! The children have learnt how to write these words using a phoneme frame and segmenting each word to write them in their own box – foil = f-oi-l.
The children have been using their phonics knowledge to create their own flashcards and hide them around the room for others to find!
In English we have continued with ‘Drawing Club’ this week and have been reading the story ‘Penguin’ by Polly Dunbar. The children really liked the character of the Penguin. We have drawn where the Lion might live, Thought about what else the Lion could eat and how we could rescue the Penguin from the Lion’s tummy! The children have the most fantastic imagination and used their Monster Phonics knowledge and wrote the most wonderful descriptive sentences explaining what they have drawn!
In Maths we are consolidating our learning. We have been playing lots of maths games this week – hopscotch, snap and the bean bag throwing game. The children had to take it in turns to throw 6 bean bags at a hoop and record using a tally chart how many they got inside the hoop. They then compared their result with their friends to find out who was the winner – it was very competitive! We have also been recapping our number bonds to 10 and the children are doing brilliantly at remembering the numbers which go together – 8 and 2, 10 and 0, 9 and 1 etc.
In Topic we have been exploring one of the children’s interests from last week. We have been exploring ‘Space’. We have learnt all about Astronauts and who the first person in space was. We have created our very own Rockets to blast us into space. We have looked at all the planets in the solar system and then created our own planet that we would like to visit – we used the amazing technique of ink marbling and the planets look magical.
It was lovely to see so many of you at parents’ evening. It really is a pleasure to share with you all the fantastic progress your child has made so far. It is a privilege to teach such a wonderful group of children.

Please remember that PE is Tuesday 26th March next week instead of the normal Monday. Please send your child into School wearing their PE kit.
Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school. Children need to have a pair of shoes/trainers to wear whilst at school – wellies are not suitable to wear all day.
Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
