Farthing Wood Class update

The children have been absolute superstars this week and settled in the school day routine beautifully. I hope you are all as proud of them as we are.
We have begun our Monster Phonics journey and the children have been introduced to all the phonics Monsters – I wonder which is their favourite? The children have learnt the sounds for the Black Cat letters s,a, t and p. They have been absolutely amazing at recognising the initial sounds in words and even spotting the sound if it is in the middle or the end of the word.
In our ‘All About Me’ Topic we have found out about our school rules and JONK, which is The Joy of Not Knowing. We have explored how it is great to not know things because the more we think and do, the more our brains will grow. The children have also learnt about the JONK animals and their characteristics who help with our learning behaviours; curious cats, resilient sharks, resourceful octopus, collaborative bees, creative spiders and reflective monkeys.
This week your child has been sent home with a story for you to share together at home – we love sharing stories in Farthing Wood class, talking about the pictures and asking questions about what’s happening in the story. We hope you enjoy sharing the story at home! Your child will be sent home with a Reading Book and reading record next week in their reading wallet – we will pop this in their book bag. Please record when you read with your child in the Reading Record.
Can you please remember to send the children in with appropriate weather clothing – sunhat, wellies and waterproofs . We will go outside regardless of the weather. Next Week in Topic we are going to be looking at families – we would love a photo of your child’s family to display in our Home Corner, a picture to spark a conversation and remind you child of home. (You can email these to me – k.betts@coastaltogether.co.uk or the school office and we will print them off) Please remember we always encourage our children to be independent therefore please send your child to school in shoes that they can put on, and take off themselves.
