Farthing Wood Class update

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a fantastic holiday and it has been lovely to see everyone back this week and last.
What an amazing start to the New Year Farthing Wood class have had! They have truly amazed me with their knowledge of phonics and maths.
In Phonics we have recapped the digraphs th and ng and learnt a new digraph – Brown Owl ow as in cow, pow, town, brown.. We have really enjoyed creating our own flashcards using the colours of the monsters. We even went on a flashcard hunt seeing how many we could write down before the timer finished – we were all very competitive!!
We have started reading a new story in English – The Gingerbread Man, and the children have begun drawing their own versions and telling their story to an adult. We have learnt all about the characters and what they look like on the outside and what they are like on the inside. The children used some wonderful vocabulary to describe them, especially the sly old fox!
In Maths we have recapped one less with numbers to 5, spotting zero and played the card game who has more. The children have been fantastic at knowing the composition of 5 – what numbers together make up the number five.
In Topic we have recapped our school rules and looked at all the different JONK characters we use whilst learning. The children then drew a picture of their favourite character.
We had our first PE lesson in the hall which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. We practised moving in different ways and listening to instructions and playing different games with our ‘sticky spot’.
We had a wonderful visit to the library this week. It was lovely to see all the different books available and have a story read to us. Some children even got to take out some library books to read at home.
Please remember that PE is on a Monday and we expect children to come into School wearing their PE kit – a letter reminding you of the correct PE kit has been sent home.
Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school.
Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
