Farthing Wood Class update

We had the most wonderful time on our minibus trip around the village on Monday trying to spot familiar buildings. All the children were so well behaved and enjoyed their first time on the school minibus!
In phonics we have been introduced to ‘Cool Blue’ and his ‘oo’ grapheme – as o=in zoom, cool, food, boom. The children have been on a Cool Blue word hunt around the classroom and even made their own flashcards. We have been recapping our High Frequency Words from this term – the children have amazed me with their knowledge and sight reading. We’ve been practising our letters c and o in handwriting too and been trying really hard with our letter formation.
In English the children have continued to read our traditional tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have looked at the characters in the story, the setting and the beginning, middle and end of the story ready to write our own for next week. It was lovely to hear them chatting to their peers using the language learnt from the story.
In Maths we have been recapping how the number 4 and 5 are made (composition). The children have been making and subitising 4 and 5 (knowing a group of objects makes a particular number) and recognising two numbers together makes another number using double sided counters and a 5 frame! We have also been singing the song 10 green bottles and recognising it is 1 less each time.
In Topic not only did we go on a trip around the village but we went on a virtual walk around Mundesley using Google Maps to help us recap the buildings we saw. We found Mundesley on a map of Norfolk and realised Norfolk is part of Great Britain. So we discovered where Norfolk is on the map of Great Britain. We extended this further by finding Great Britain on a map of the world!
We are looking at different types of buildings and houses. Please send in a photo of your house so we can use it in our small world – the children love to play and make up stories with familiar buildings. Please send it to the office or myself (k.betts@coastaltogether.co.uk)
Please ensure you send wellies and waterproofs with your child to keep in their locker at school.
Please remember to send your child’s Handwriting Homework Book back on a Monday – thank you.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
