Welcome to Narnia Class

Hello and welcome to Narnia class! We are a fun, lively and imaginative group of 30 pupils, led by our teacher Mrs Pettifer-Saunders and wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Cornhill and Mr Nearney. Our class is named after the literary land from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. In our class we are curious, creative and collaborative thinkers, and we love to have fun and explore new ways of learning!

What are we learning about this term?

This term our topic is ‘Way Down Under’. Throughout this topic the children will explore Australia, compare it to Norfolk and have plenty of opportunities to use their imagination and creativity.

We will be looking closely at how being part of a culture contributes to feelings of happiness, tradition and belonging. To achieve this, we will compare Australia and Norfolk, by looking at the weather in both locations, changes which occur and how both appear visually through a camera.

Our History lessons will be filled with exploration about life in Australia before the British settlers arrived, who arrived as part of the British settlers and how these individuals differed from the people who already had a home there.

In Art and Design, we shall be exploring and creating traditional aboriginal art. We will be focusing on the primary and secondary colours, using three different printing techniques (stamping, rubbing and pressing) and create our own sculptures.

In Music, we will learn that composing means inventing a new piece of music and within this, what tempo and rhythm is. As we are exploring Australia, we will learn more about wind instruments, such as the didgeridoo, gum leaf and bullroarer.

We can't wait for our brains to grow bigger from all of the new information we shall be learning!
