Welcome to Farthing Wood Class

Farthing Wood

Welcome to Farthing Wood Class. In this wonderful Class you will find 22 very curious and inquisitive children who are really looking forward to building their resilience , resourcefulness, collaborative and creative skills, as well as being reflective and curious just like our JONK characters! We have Mrs Betts as our teacher and four wonderful teaching assistants: Miss Cutting, Mrs Farrow, Miss Harris and Miss Finch to help us during the week. Just like the wonderful woodland animals of Farthing Wood we are going to be super busy exploring our provision inside and out and investigating all the amazing resources during our independent learning. This term we are going to be exploring our two Topic's - firstly 'All Creatures Great & Small' and we will look at 'Are all communities the same?' - exploring Community and Consequnces and after half term we will explore the Topic 'Growing' where we will look at 'What do we need to grow?' - exploring love and care.

What are we learning about this term?

This half term we are going to be exploring our Topic - 'All Creatures Great & Small’' and look at the question ‘Are all communities the same?’ and explore this using the key concepts community and consequences.

In this topic we will be exploring the natural world and making observations by looking at similarities and differences between the natural world around us and contrasting environments. We will talk about different parts of our local community and discover different countries around the world. We will then explore and recognise similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries. We shall be learning about different types of dance and how we can move our bodies to music that is sad and happy. We will create our own dance together as a class to a piece of music chosen by the children. In expressive arts and design, we will use pencils and other materials to draw pictures from observations. We will begin to show accuracy and care when drawing.

Next half term, we are going to be exploring our Topic - ‘Growing’. We are going to be answering the question ‘What do we need to grow?’ using our key concepts of care and love. To begin with we will be looking at how do I show myself and others I care.

We will talk about and identify our feelings and emotions. We will talk about our JONK characters and what they mean and we will recap our school rules and why they are important. We are going to explore the natural world making observations. We will look at familiar plants and flowers and talk about the differences we see. Together we will draw pictures of a plants, flowers, trees and bushes. We will learn about the life cycle of a plant. We will discover the life cycle of a butterfly and watch as caterpillars transform into butterflies right in front of our eyes. Together we will explore and observe natural process such as ice melting, an object casting a shadow, a magnet attracting an object and a boat floating on water. We are going to learn all about the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo and create our own collage picture using fruit and vegetables. Using computers the children will create shapes and text on a screen. They will move objects around and be able to talk about different kinds of information such as pictures, videos, text and sound. We look forward to a great term learning and exploring ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ and ‘Growing’.
