Welcome to Ruby Bridges Class! We are a mixed class of Reception and Year 1 children. We are taught by Mrs Steers (Monday to Thursday) and Miss Howett (Friday). We have three wonderful TA’s in our class; Mrs Betts, Mrs Farrow and Mrs McGuire.
We are awesome children who aspire to achieve together because ‘together we are stronger’. We learn through a mix of child initiated and adult led learning.
This year, our class is named after Ruby Bridges.
Ruby Nell Bridges Hall (born September 8, 1954) was the first African-American child (at the tender age of 6) to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis on 14 November 1960.
Ruby still lives in New Orleans. She runs the Ruby Bridges Foundation to help troubled children at William Frantz and other schools. ... Today, Ruby Bridges continues to live in New Orleans and works in schools around the country to promote education.
This term we are looking forward to starting our “Ahoy There!” Topic, in which we will explore old and new RNLI lifeboats, lighthouses, and look at the lives of some famous people who have been heroes at sea!
