We have been super busy looking at a different mode of transport for our Topic ‘Ticket to Ride’, this week we have been investigating boats. The children have had the opportunity to make boats using newspaper, sponges, egg boxes and wood; we have investigated sinking and floating too and have wondered whether our boats will sink or float!
In English our focus text has been ‘Who Sank the Boat’ by Pamela Allen – The children are working really hard on thinking of the sentence they want to write and then using sound mats to help them write it. We are very proud of all the children’s work and are looking forward to sharing it with you when you visit for the ‘Book Look’ later this month.
In phonics we have been learning our first trigraph ( a sound made from three letters)! Yellow I helped us this week with his ‘igh’ grapheme.
In Maths we have been gaining a deeper understanding of numbers within 10, writing them, making them, identifying them and using our ‘fast eyes’ to subtise. We have been working really hard on using our 1:1 correspondence skills. This is where we touch and count one object at a time.
In PE the children are learning multi-skills and the last two weeks have been able to use lots of different apparatus to practise ‘pirate skills’ such as climbing the rigging, walking the plank and surviving shark attacks! Please can you make sure that your child has the correct clothing, check out our PE kit requirements on the uniform section of the website.
REMINDER: we have PE on a Monday and will change reading books on a Monday too so please ensure your child brings their reading book and reading record to school every day. If we don’t catch them to read on a Monday we will read with children during the week.
Please make sure your child has waterproof shoes or wellies – we are now using our ‘mud kitchen’ – and also slippers to change into. Thank you
