Attenborough Class update

We have had another wonderful week in Attenborough Class.
In phonics we have introduced the children to CVC + digraphs (Consonant, Vowel, Consonant) such as spoon, train, crash and brown. The children have been amazing at recognising the digraphs, vowels and consonants in each word. We have been reading the story ‘The Little Man’ which is based on the Gingerbread Man. We spent time as a class looking at action words such as thump, growl, grunt, munch, creep and matching it with the character that does the action. The children were amazing at this and even wrote full sentences to describe each character!
In English we have continued with ‘Drawing Club’ this week and have been watching an episode of ‘The Trapdoor’. The children really liked the character Berk and drew an amazing picture of what they thought his Master would look like. We used our creative thinking brains to come up with ideas on what Master could have for breakfast, what new monster would come out of the trapdoor and how we could rescue the monster from being the Master’s breakfast! The children have the most fantastic imagination and used their Monster Phonics knowledge and wrote the most wonderful descriptive sentences explaining what they have drawn!
In Maths we have been creating models and replicating them. We have been using our maths vocabulary to describe where each cube should go – next to, on top, beside, behind, to allow us to recreate the exact same model. We even challenged each other, in pairs we took it in turns to create a model and the other person had to recreate it! It was quite tricky at first but we all managed to achieve this. We have also been creating pictures using shapes – Tangrams. We have been really resilient and created some amazing pictures using various different shapes such as butterflies, frogs and houses.
In Topic we have been learning all about King Charles III and his family. We looked at his family tree and what he did before he was King. We also learnt all about the King’s Coronation taking place this weekend and talked about the ceremony and what would happen. We learnt about what KIng Charles III will be given during the ceremony including a crown, The Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross, The Sovereign’s Orb, The Sovereign’s Sceptre with Dove and The Coronation Ring. The children are going to see if they can spot any of them over the weekend!

The children all participated in a special assembly during which the Crown parade took place – they all looked amazing! Don’t forget to complete your monarch hunt around the village this week! Good luck everyone!

Please could you ensure your child brings Wellies and a suit with them on a Wednesday as they will go out whatever the weather.
We love to see what adventures your child gets up to at home – clubs they attend , baking, reading, making dens, being creative, going on nature walks. Tapestry is a wonderful place to share these with us and the class – please upload your photos and a brief description so we can share these together during circle time.
