Ruby Bridges class update w/e 20/11/2020

We’ve had a wonderful week of learning this week. We have introduced our new topic ‘One Upon a time’ and started reading our new book ‘What the Ladybird Heard’. In Phonics we have learnt the new sounds; f, ff, l, ll and ss. We have learnt that the ff, ll, ss all come at the end of a word. In Maths we have been doing lots of work on positional language such as behind, in front of, next to, beside, in between. We used all this language to manoeuvre around an obstacle course. We’ve also been focusing on the question “Why should we work together?” during our PSHE lessons. The year ones have been focussing on the tch, ve and ai sounds. New spellings will be added to Google Classroom. Please can all Year one parents make sure they have logged in so that you can access your child’s spellings. In maths the Year ones have been working on number bonds and recording the number sentences down systematically, making sure we use the correct symbol for add and equals. We have also spent lots of time focusing on sentence structure. All children have been heard read if their books were in  their book bags and new focus words have been given to the Reception children.

Well done Ruby Bridges Class.

Ruby Bridges weekly class update 13/11/2020

We’ve had another great week in Ruby Bridges Class. We have learnt the new sounds; h and b and the new focus words; dog, cat, big, get and you. We have been learning all about shapes in maths, using language such as sides, edges and corners. In Topic we have been learning about Diwali and created Rangoli patterns and made Diva Lamps. Year 1s in phonics have focused on the digraphs; ff, ss, zz and ll and the focus words he, she, me, we and be and how to spell them – please could you re-enforce this at home. In maths the Year 1s have been looking at ten frames and part whole models and writing the number sentences that match the image. In English have been focusing on a picture from the book ‘Pattans Pumpkin’ and written facts about the picture and what we wonder. The Year 1s have also designed their perfect garden, labelled it and written sentences using adjectives. Well done Ruby Bridges, you have been super stars.
** Please could you check that your child has the correct jumper, (please make sure all jumpers are named), a few of the children missing and they were labelled with their name. Many thanks **

Ruby Bridges Class update w/e 6 Nov 2020

What a lovely first week back, it was so nice to see all the children. In Phonics we have learnt the new sounds; c, ck, e, u and r. We have also learnt the focus words mum, dad, and, went and to (these have gone home in your child’s wallets). In maths we have concentrated on numbers 1, 2 and 3 and found lots of different ways to represent the numbers, we have also concentrated on more and less and one more and one less. In topic we have learnt all about Bonfire Night, Guy Fawkes and how to keep safe when watching fireworks. In our PSHE lesson we have started to look at different emotions and how we can help ourselves if we are feeling sad or angry. Year 1s have been busy writing about their half term break and used the part/whole method in maths.

We had a fantastic first PE lesson and all the children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon of exercise.

PE for all children in Ruby Bridges Class is on Wednesday. Please make sure your child has trainers, plain jogging bottoms, a plain white t-shirt and a plain black or blue jumper. They can use their purple school jumpers if you don’t have a plain jumper.

Your child needs a bottle of fresh water every day, we still have lots of children who keep forgetting to bring one. Many thanks.

Ruby Bridges Class weekly update 16 Oct 2020

We’ve had another amazing week in our class!

In Phonics we have learnt the sound m, d and g and the words on, am, up and was. Year 1s have been busy reading and writing lots of words for their phonics assessment, everyone worked really hard.

In maths we have been looking at size, mass and capacity and discussed the vocabulary that we need to use. Year ones have been counting reliably and finding one more and one less.

In topic we have been reminding ourselves what makes a good friend, as a class we came up with a list and this will go up in the class to remind everyone what they need to do.

Pumpkin went home with Alice on Thursday for being a caring friend to all. Pumpkin will get to go home with every child so please remind your child that they will get a chance to take him home.

We also enjoyed a zoom visit from Reverend Andrews to celebrate Harvest and discuss all the things that we are thankful for, it was lots of fun and the children loved seeing themselves on camera!

Your child needs their book bag, coat (with a hood or a hat) and a fresh bottle of water (not squash please) every day.
